Russia is concerned about the aggravation of relations between Spain and Morocco in connection with the landing of Moroccan servicemen at the island of Perejil by the Northern African coast, the press and information department of the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Monday.
Moscow believes that "such problems should be solved by peaceful efforts and negotiations," the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
A group of Moroccan servicemen landed at the small uninhabited island of Perejil against the Spanish town of Ceuta, situated in Northern Africa, and hoisted the Moroccan flag above the island.
According to press secretary of the Moroccan government Mohamed Ashaari, Perejil is a Moroccan island and a control point of the Moroccan royal armed forces will be established there to fight illegal migration and drug trafficking to Spain.
The Spanish authorities don't take any counter-actions, waiting for explanations from Rabat. Meanwhile, Spain reinforces its presence in the region.
