Belarus adjusts its foreign policy with Russia's

Belarus adjusts policies it pursues within the Belarus-Russia Union with Russia's, said Gennadi Nevyklas, state secretary of the Belarussian Security Council. He was commenting on results of a Council meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko.

According to Nevyklas, "the principled position of Russia towards the eastward expansion of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation coincides with our position". "Both the sides are pursuing this course in a coordinated manner", he stressed.

At the meeting of the Belarussian Security Council they spoke of adjusting relations between Belarus and its neighbours who have entered NATO and of establishing "special relations between NATO, Russia and Ukraine". "On the whole, our policy are not to undergo any cardinal changes whatsoever", said Gennadi Nevyklas.

As regards cooperation between Belarus and NATO, he said that cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance is being maintained in 19 directions, and a NATO official for scientific cooperation is soon expected to visit Belarus.
