A group of 30 military servicemen from the US Special Forces Combat Engineering Detachment along with specialists from the Pentagon special detachments for "psychological operations" began an educational program for Azerbaijani combat engineers in the Fizuli district. According to the press-service of the US State Department, the program is conducted within the framework of the program on the clearing of antipersonnel mines, which were left in Azerbaijan after the Azerbaijani-Armenian conflict concerning Nagorno-Karabakh.
"The participation of the US military servicemen opened another front in the battle against mines in Azerbaijan," the US Assistant Secretary of State for Political and Military Affairs Lincoln Bloomfield, who is also the US State Secretary and the President's special envoy on the issues of mine clearing, stressed.
According to the press-service, the US State Department and the Defence Ministry spent $6mln on the mine clearing works in Azerbaijan over the past three years. The program also includes training provided by the US Special Forces to sappers from Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.
