Philippines ready to cooperate with Russia's Far East in shipbuilding and timber industry

A delegation of the Philippine Congress headed by Congress Speaker Jose de Venecia.

The delegation also includes Philippine Ambassador to Russia Jaime Bautiste and businessmen of the republic.

At a meeting with Legislative Assembly representatives of the Khabarovsk Territory, Jose de Venecia emphasised that the Far East was of particular interest for the Philippines and the republic's businessmen were interested in developing economic and interpartliamentary cooperation with Russia's Far East.

The congressman also voiced his intention to conduct talks on diesel fuel purchases at the Khabarovsk Territory's factories, on the Philippines' participation in developing forest resources of the Far East. In particular, at issue was joint construction of timber processing factories in the Khabarovsk Territory.

Besides, Jose de Venecia emphasised that cooperation prospects in ship-building, especially in building hovercraft, were considered.

The meeting also focused on tourism development, opening a direct airline Philippines-the Far East. Jose de Venecia remarked that Philippines were ready supply fruit, vegetables, textile, shoes and other items of light industry to Russia.
