While on a three-day official visit to Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, Greek President Konstandinos Stephanopoulos stated that Greece was offering Kazakhstan investment worth $500 million in oil extraction at the Caspian Sea shelf.
During the negotiations with the Kazakh leaders, the Greek President also invited Kazakh specialists to Athens to study technical and economic possibilities of the Burgas-Aleksandropolis oil pipeline which would be build with Russia's participation to run from Bulgaria to Greece. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed the interest of his country to participate in the project.
