A Chinese delegation headed by Li Shengming, the Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, has arrived in the Maritime Territory, Russia's Far East. On Saturday, Chinese representatives held negotiations with the regional authorities. At the meeting, the officials touched on bilateral cooperation between this Russian region and China.
According to Igor Ivanov, the Maritime Territory Vice-Governor, this region is the leader among other Russian Far Eastern regions in terms of cooperation with the bordering country. Approximately 1,900 local enterprises and companies were in business with China last year.
A spokesman for the regional administration added that the Chinese authorities are still "very cautious in their investment policies" in Russia's Far East. About 573 companies with Chinese participation have been registered in the region, but only 176 of them really work. The overwhelming majority of them sells or exports Russian-produced raw materials.
Apart from the Maritime Territory, the Chinese delegation is expected to visit several cities in the Far East, Siberia and the Volga region.
