In Moscow on Friday Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov met with Heinz Fischer, President of the National Council of Austria. The speaker of the lower chamber of the Austrian parliament is on a visit in Russia on the invitation of the State Duma.
As reported by the Russian Foreign Minister, they noted the positive development of Russian-Austrian relations and the proximity of positions of the two countries on a number of international matters.
The two sides exchanged opinions on the situation in Europe and the world. Upon the request from Austrian parliamentarians, Igor Ivanov set forth the position of Russia on topical problems of European security, Russia's interaction with its G8 partners, cooperation with the European Union and the North-Atlantic Treaty Organisation and settlement of the situation in the Middle East.
