A Russia-EU summit on EU expansion is to take place in St. Petersburg in 2003. President Putin announced this at a press conference in Canada at the end of the G8 summit.
Participating in the summit will be Russian and EU political leaders. Putin said that active discussions are now taking place with European partners, the majority of whom have already agreed to come to St. Petersburg.
The Russia-EU summit in St. Petersburg will take into account the timing of the 2003 G8 summit in France so that not only European leaders, but also those of Japan, Canada and the USA can be invited to the tercentenary celebrations in St. Petersburg.
