President of Kyrgyzstan Askar Akayev and state minister of Turkey Reshat Dogru took part in the ceremony of laying the foundation for a campus of the Kyrgyz-Turkish university Manas in Bishkek.
In his speech the Kyrgyz president pointed out that the event was "the evidence of close and indissoluble spiritual and brotherly connections between kindred Kyrgyz and Turkish nations".
Diversified cooperation with Turkey is very important for Kyrgyzstan, Askar Akayev stressed, as Turkey "is investing substantial sums in our country's education." The construction of the largest student campus in Kyrgyzstan, situated on the territory of the capital's former airport, will cost about $140 million. It is to be completed in 2010.
