An International Monetary Fund mission, which is currently in Uzbekistan, had conducted a review into how the country is implementing its monitoring programme. Following the review, the mission and the Uzbek government issued a joint statement pointing to the "significant progress" that has been made in implementing the programme.
IMF representatives said that the Uzbek government's monetary-credit and taxation-budget policies were being pursued in accordance with the agreements reached with the Fund.
A decision was taken to extend the monitoring period for another two months to allow IMF staff to evaluate the stability and irreversibility of reforms in the country.
