The delegation of the Russian interior ministry held talks with the delegation of the Chinese ministry of public security on Wednesday, said the interior ministry's press service.
The Russian delegation gives a positive assessment of the negotiations, as many exact resolutions on cooperation have been adopted. The parties signed agreements on cooperation in borderline areas, and a protocol on cooperation between the Russian interior ministry and the Chinese ministry of public security for 2003.
The Russian stand on such topical issues as illegal immigration, illegal drug trade and smuggling was understood by the Chinese party, the press service pointed out. In particular, the parties came to terms about setting up an inter-departmental working group for regulation migration flows. They also outlined possible ways of preventing smuggling of rare-earth metals, timber, and natural resources.
The parties considered a possibility of creating the interior ministry's department in the Russian embassy to China and of the Chinese public security ministry's mission to Russia.
