Belarussian-Russian relations were the main theme at the nearly three-hour negotiations between Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko and well-known Russian politician and Chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Yevgeny Primakov.
Yevgeny Primakov himself told reporters about it. According to him, the conversation with Alexander Lukashenko "has inspired" him. "I felt that the Belarussian President stood for the development of the Union in which each country must be sovereign," said Primakov. With time, he continued, "it will be possible to transfer part of the powers to the supranational bodies." But we must not allow the complete disappearance of the sovereignty either of Belarus or Russia, pointed out Yevgeny Primakov.
He qualified the treaty on the creation of the Union State as "a very good one." However, he said, it contains certain flaws. "Some of its aspects contradict the sovereignty of the states." Nevertheless, believes Yevgeny Primakov, the treaty on the creation of a Union State cannot be denounced. "We should strive to continue to create a legislative basis which would exclude the loss of sovereignty," he underscored.
