International day of combating drug abuse and dealing in Tajikistan

On the International day of combating drug abuse and dealing the Tajik schools, organizations and institutions arrange different activities devoted to fighting illegal drug trade.

For coordinating the fight with the illegal turnover of drugs and psychotropic substances an Agency for drug control has been set up by the Tajik president.

Last year Tajikistan's police together with Russian border guards stationed in Tajikistan confiscated almost 9 tons of drugs, said the Agency's press secretary Avaz Yuldashev.

During the first 5 months of this year the department for combating illegal drug trade at the Tajik interior ministry confiscated 413 kg of heroine, 100 kg more in comparison with the same period last year. 250 people have been sentenced to 10-25 years of imprisonment for crimes connected with drugs.
