At a session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, which has opened in Strasbourg, the matter of the Kaliningrad region /Russia's enclave in the Baltic region/ will be put under consideration. Chairperson of the PACE Political Group Peter Schieder told reporters that on Tuesday the session will hold early debates on the observance of human rights in the Kaliningrad region in the light of the upcoming expansion of the European Union to the East.
The Russian delegation in PACE has put the Kaliningrad issue to discussion. The report will be delivered by chief delegate Dmitry Ragozin.
The session is expected to instruct the PACE economic commission to prepare a report on Kaliningrad, which is to be discussed at the next session in autumn.
