Russian parliamentarians to discuss prospects of cooperation with NATO Parliamentary Assembly

The delegation of the State Duma in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which is headed by First Vice Speaker of Russia's Lower House Lyubov Sliska, is leaving for Rome June 18 to discuss, with the Italian parliamentarians, the prospects of cooperation within the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. Lyubov Sliska spoke about it at a briefing the day before.

The Russian parliamentarians will stay in Rome up to June 21.

As was pointed out by the First Vice Speaker of the State Duma, we shall discuss issues of cooperation in the fight against international terrorism and in ensuring ecological security, as well as the issues of Russia and Italy's participation in international treaties and the ratification of appropriate international treaties which present interest for the member-countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. Lyubov Sliska underscored that in 2002 the Baltic states would enter NATO, "and we would like to know their attitude to those treaties which we have ratified, in particular the treaty concerning the reduction of nuclear weapons' tests."
