The dialog between Russia and Senegal is based on similarity of their views on topical problems of the present, said the Russian foreign ministry's information and press department in a release.
This similarity can be found "in such key issues on the international agenda as securing strategic stability, forming a democratic model of interstate relations and fighting international terrorism," says the document.
Russia grants Senegal 20 scholarships for studying at Russian universities. "Today about 100 Senegalese students study in Russia. The University of Dakar and the Institute of Russian language named after A.S.Pushkin signed an agreement on cooperation. The Dakar university opened a department of Slavic languages and culture." June 14, 2002, is the 40th anniversary of establishing Russian-Senegalese diplomatic relations. In this connection Russian foreign minister Igor Ivanov and his Senegalese counterpart Sheikh Gadio exchanged congratulations.
The document expresses a hope that the traditionally friendly Russian-Senegalese relations will be developing for the good of the two countries, in the interest of strengthening peace and international cooperation.
