Russian-Italian bilateral relations are an important factor of European security. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Meshkov said this on Friday at the negotiations with the head of the Italian region Lazio, Francesco Storace.
According to him, relations between Moscow and Rome are "also an important stage in building a new architecture of today's Europe." Alexei Meshkov underscored that the Russian-Italian relations at the top level are developing very dynamically and positively. As an example, he mentioned the April visit to Russia this year by Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and his meetings at the high level.
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister also said that the development of relations in the economic and cultural spheres testified to the substantive nature of the political dialogue between the two countries.
Alexei Meshkov underscored that Moscow highly rated the role of Italy in the organisation of the recent Russia-NATO summit in Rome.
