Russian Foreign Minister comments on Indian-Pakistani relations

G-8 Foreign Ministers believe that international efforts, including those on the part of G-8 members, have made it possible to reduce tensions in relations between India and Pakistan somewhat. This was disclosed to reporters here today by Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov.

According to Ivanov, these positive signs amount to initial steps in the context of settling the Indian-Pakistani conflict.

The international community should see to it that terrorists don't take advantage of those tense relations between New Delhi and Islamabad for the sake of aggravating the situation along the Indian-Pakistani border. The de-escalation process must go on, also making it possible to resume political dialogue. This also concerns the Kashmir issue, Ivanov added.
