Patriarch Alexy II met US public figures

Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy II met representatives of the American public at the Synodal residence of St. Daniel's Monastery, the Foreign Church Relations Department (OVCS) reported on Tuesday.

The US delegation included members of the James Madison Council - an influential public organisation uniting politicians and representatives of Big Business with a view to supporting the all-round activity of the Library of the US Congress.

The Patriarch told the American visitors of the difficult relationship of the state with the Russian Orthodox Church in the Soviet epoch and of the subsequent revival of Orthodoxy in Russia.

Besides that, projects of cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of culture were discussed in the course of the meeting of Alexy II with the US public figures.
