Political directors of the G-8 discussed the Middle East peace settlement, in particular relations between India and Pakistan, during a teleconference. Russia's political director, deputy foreign minister Georgy Mamedov took part in the discussion, according to the information and press department.
In the context of arrangements for a G-8 summit due on June 26th-27th in Kananaskis, Canada, and a meeting of foreign ministers on June 12th-13th in Wistler, the political directors discussed a large number of issues from the G-8 foreign-political agenda.
A special attention was paid to increasing cooperation within the G-8 in fighting international terrorism, as well as in providing international security and strategic stability, said the department.
"The results of the Russia-US and Russia-EU summits in Moscow and the Russia-NATO summit in Rome have created a radically new atmosphere for efficient discussion of all these issues within the G-8 framework," stressed the Russian foreign ministry.
