Members of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers /CFM/ will discuss arrangements for the Commonwealth summit to be held in October, in particular, the drawing up of a new conceptual vision of strategic directions for the Commonwealth to develop in, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov, the Chairman of the Council, announced opening a session on Thursday.
Upon the suggestion of Kazakhstan's president, Russia will be charged with the coordinating role in drafting the concept, the official recalled. At the same time, he is sure that "the successful fulfilment of the task is possible, provided all the CIS member countries take active part in the work," Igor Ivanov underlined.
The meeting will be the first after the CIS anniversary meetings in Moscow last November, the Foreign Minister pointed out. "The Moscow summit decision and the results of the CIS leaders' unofficial meeting in Alma-Ata set us large-scale tasks to further perfect and enhance multifarious cooperation in the dynamically changing world," the Russian foreign minister remarked.
