Specialists to blow up remainders of the Kursk on the floor of the Barents Sea

After the first compartment of the nuclear submarine Kursk will have been raised, specialists will blow up the fragments remaining on the sea floor -- for the sake of fishing ships, whose bottom sweeps may get tangled in the wreck.

At this moment, the rescue ships Mikhail Rudnitsky and Altai are busy mounting technological equipment an advance of the operation to raise the fragments of the first compartment.

The blowing up of the remaining debris is meant to be the final stage of the salvage operation, which may take about a month or so, depending on the weather.

Back in August of 2000, the Kursk disaster killed all 118 crew on board the submarine. Later on, the sunken submarine was raised -- all of it except the first compartment, which was cut off from the rest of the wreck and left lying on the floor of the Barents Sea.
