A "dining tramcar" will be launched in Kazan, the capital of the Federal Republic of Tatarstan, on June 1st.
The tramcar project is being sponsored by the state unitary enterprise Kazgorelektrotrans, whose General Director Asfan Galyavov says it is expected to drive up the earnings of the enterprise.
The city already has a number of tramcars fitted out as museums, complete with professional guides from the National Museum of Tatarstan who acquaint passengers with the history of Kazan, tramcars bearing the names of World War II heroes, and an "orchestra tram." All these tram routes are very popular in Kazan. According to Galyavov, the objective of the transport service is to attract extra revenues.
The "dining tramcar," which is called Pyaterochka, will run along a tram route in the center of the city.
Kazgorelektrotrans is now busy replacing old tramlines for new ones. Later in the year, it will also replace more than 30 kilometers of the contact-wire system.
