In the Kursk disaster area, specialists are busy mounting the equipment that is needed to raise the first compartment of the submarine, which sunk in August of 2000 during an exercise in the Barents Sea.
According to the press service of Russia's Northern Fleet, the operation to raise the fragments of Kursk's first compartment begins in the next few days. It is expected that the calm, which set in recently, will allow specialists to complete the preparations in a matter of one or two days.
The hull of the sunken submarine was raised from the sea floor in the autumn of 2001. An accident, which remains a mystery to this day, had claimed the lives of all 118 crew on board the Kursk.
