The World Health Organisation has released information which indicates that 50 million children are not receiving enough iodine.
Iodine deficiency can result in a lack of development of the brain, causing backwardness or a reduced capacity to perform mental functions normally. Iodine is contained in the so-called micro-nutrients such as Vitamin A, iron and zinc.
A WHO spokesperson confirmed that “In the unprotected communities, these people have, on average, an IQ lower by 10 to 15 points when compared with people who live in areas where iodine is abundant”.
