Chilean ex-president, senator Eduardo Frei, currently on a private visit to Russia, will meet Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov on Saturday, Frei told RIA Novosti. The forthcoming meeting will focus on practical ways of development of all aspects of Chilean-Russian relations, with the account for Igor Ivanov's good knowledge of Latin America, the senator said. It concerns not only the expansion of trade and economic relations but also the development of cultural and educational ties and Russian-Chilean cooperation within the APEC framework, Frei noted. Frei is convinced that our countries have great possibilities. He expects to thoroughly discuss with the Russian authorities prospects for future cooperation in political, economic and scientific-technical spheres. The senator believes that Russia and Chili have common approaches to many international and regional problems. It is necessary to maintain and develop this trend, he stressed. Frei also intends to meet Russian State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov. On Sunday Frei will leave for St. Petersburg.
