Islamic extremists set off an explosion in the Milan metro

A gas container was blown up on Saturday night in the Milan metro. The explosion resulted in a fire which produced huge smoke screen at the station. Police managed to quickly extinguish the fire, nobody was injured. The traffic was stopped for 20 minutes. The culprits managed to escape. At the site of the crime a note was found written half in Italian, half in Arabic which stated that Islamic extremists claimed responsibility for the explosion. In addition to that the message contained a warning that the act organizers intended to continue similar actions. Police commenced investigation and is studying possible connections between the terrorist act and the Al-Qaeda activity.
