Egypt summit participants call for peace with Israel

The tripartite summit meeting of leaders of Egypt, Syria and Saudi Arabia was completed Sunday night in Sharm-ash-Sheikh (Egypt). In the final document of the meeting, a joint declaration, leaders of the three Arab states "expressed their sincere wish to conclude peace with Israel and denounced any acts of violence, in any form they might take." Egyptian minister of information Safwat-El-Sherif who made public the text of the statement in the wake of the meeting specifically pointed out that Presidents of Egypt and Syria, Mubarak and Asad, and also Crown-Prince of Saudi Arabia Abdallah bin Abd-al Aziz confirmed their adherence to the plan of the Middle East peaceful settlement approved by the all-Arab summit meeting in Beirut last March. The final document pointed out that the three leaders appealed to the global community to give support to rights of Arabs confirmed by international agreements, to exercise necessary pressure on Israel to withdraw its troops from the occupied Arab territories in order to establish just and long-lasting peace in the region. The leaders also agreed to continue their regular consultations and contacts. Despite the forecasts, the final Egypt summit document failed to mention the idea to convene an International conference on peaceful Middle East settlement advocated for by the United States and Israel.
