While talking with Yuri Luzhkov, the Mayor of Moscow, Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), said the committee was in favour of placing the International CIS and Baltia Youth Sports Games to be held in Moscow from June 14 through 24 under the committee's auspices. Mr. Luzhkov, believing this may considerably heighten the status of the games, charged the Sports Committee of Moscow with informing of this the presidents of the participating countries and their sports delegations. Yury Luzhkov said the games were the most important sports event of the year, Moscow's whole future in sports riding on it. Mr. Luzhkov hopes Jacques Rogge and Juan Antonio Samaranch, the former IOC President will be able to come to Moscow for the opening ceremony of the youth games.
