Russia has joined the international convention on the struggle against bomb terrorism. On May 8, an instrument of ratification of this convention was handed over for safe keeping to the United Nations' Secretary General, reports the Russian Foreign Ministry. Thus, Russia has become the 19th signatory to this important international covenant. According to the Foreign Ministry, this convention demands that the signatories adopt a broad range of measures to prevent acts of terrorism with the use of explosives. The convention is designed to ensure unavoidable punishment for committing such crimes and regulates matters of legal aid and extradition of criminals. The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of this document for Russia "particularly when it comes to opposing terrorist attacks with the use of explosive devices, as was the case in Moscow, Volgodonsk and Buinaksk".
