On Thursday, Vladimir Putin had a working meeting with former prime-minister Viktor Chernomyrdin, presidential press-secretary Alexei Gromov told RIA Novosti. In his words, during the meeting they discussed various aspects of Russian-Ukrainian cooperation. Earlier, the Kremlin's press-service reported that Vladimir Putin appointed Viktor Chernomyrdin the Russian ambassador to Ukraine and the president's special representative for the development of Russian-Ukrainian trade-economic ties. In a talk with journalists, Putin said: "We will hardly find a person who would know the state of Russian-Ukrainian relations better." "This appointment shows how seriously we approach the development of relations with Ukraine", he stressed. (kul/kaf)
