According to the press service of the Russian Security Council, secretaries of the Security Councils of Russia and Uzbekistan Vladimir Rushailo and Mirakbar Rakhmankulov signed a memorandum on regular consultations between the two countries' above agencies. The document was signed at a meeting between Rushailo and Rakhmankulov which took place on Friday. The meeting focused on the problem of ensuring regional and international security. Messrs. Rushailo and Rakhmankulov stressed that the fight against international terrorism and extremism and insurance of stability in Central Asia require joint efforts of all the countries of the region. Russia is building up its relations with Uzbekistan according to the principles of strategic partnership, Rushailo said following the meeting. He indicated that bilateral cooperation is becoming an important factor of building up confidence, stability and security in Europe and Asia which in turn is favourably influencing the process of strengthening security and strategic stability in the world. The Secretary of the Russian Security Council went on to point to the important role of the Russian-American ABM Treaty of 1972 which was the cornerstone of the whole complex of international agreements aimed at maintaining and strengthening strategic stability. In conclusion Rushailo stated that all the parties involved might achieve a mutually acceptable solution only through dialogue.
