Vietnam considers any actions leading to intensification of the arms race and thereby creating a real threat to stability, security and peace to be conflicting with the interests of the international community. The spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam commented in this way on the decision of US President George Bush to deploy a system of national anti-missile defence. The Vietnamese diplomat recalled that the people of his country had suffered "serious losses during the long war against the aggressors". That is why Vietnam "understands and supports the striving of the peoples of the world for peaceful and stable development" and "consistently backs up all efforts aimed at general and complete disarmament, first of all nuclear disarmament", the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of Vietnam stated.
