So far Russia has not received any official proposals from the USA on simplifying the visa regulations, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Igor Ivanov told journalists on Saturday. But he did not rule it out that such proposals "may be, will be made during the visit of the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the USA on May 18". Ivanov stressed that Russia has always stood for simplifying the visa regime, as is the case with the USA and other countries. Moscow is confident that it must not complicate contacts among people, the Minister noted. For this reason, as Igor Ivanov said, any initiative relating to simplification of the visa regulations will be most attentively considered by the Russian side. On Friday US Secretary of State Colin Powell made a statement about a possibility of introduction of a visa-free regime for those inhabitants of Russia who come to the USA for a period shorter than 90 days, have sufficient financial resources, and have a return ticket.
