Russian Delegation To Support Ukraine At PACE Session

The Russian delegation will by all means support Ukraine at the current session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). This declaration was made before journalists on Wednesday by Egor Stroyev, speaker of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament. On Thursday PACE is going to discuss expulsion of Ukraine from the Assembly as the European community is discontented with the situation around independent media in this country. Egor Stroev reminded the attendants that the participants of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, who gathered in St. Petersburg last week, agreed to vote unanimously at all international parliamentary assemblies. "We agreed to stop speculating about our friendly feelings, as we all used to vote unanimously at the CIS Assembly, but, surprisingly, voted differently at PACE sessions," remarked the Upper House Chairman. -O- (mal/nog) 25/04/01 13:21
