On Tuesday, the Melbourne court is considering an appeal by former Latvian Nazi officer Konrad Kalejs against a decision by the Australian court on his extradition to Latvia. Last May, the Melbourne court ruled to extradite Konrad Kalejs accused of military crimes and genocide during World War II to Latvian authorities who had been seeking the extradition. However, Kalejs' lawyers had lodged an appeal against the given decision to the Australian federal court. The lawyers claim their client may not be extradited to Latvia to face trials there because of his age and poor health. According to some data, Kalejs' health has considerably worsened after the court ruling on his extradition.
