Russia sees solution to the energy security problems of the Asia-Pacific region in laying oil and gas pipelines and power transmitting lines to China, Japan and the Korean peninsula. Russia's foreign minister Igor Ivanov said as much Thursday, following the meeting between foreign and trade ministers of the countries participating in the APEC economic cooperation forum. According to Ivanov, hydrocarbons depots in Siberia and the Far East can be used for this purpose. Advanced nuclear technologies also seem promising for generating electricity. Russia also confirmed readiness to employ its Far Eastern sea ports, cross-polar skyways from Asia to North America over Siberia and the Far East for ensuring reliable and effective transport infrastructure in the region, concluded the minister.
