Military operations by the United States and its allies in Afghanistan must be aimed solely against terrorist centers and forces supporting them, Russian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. It pointed out that military actions must be directed against concrete targets and must not jeopardize the lives of the peaceful population and subject innocent people to suffering. In Moscow's view, the current operation must not spill over from Afghanistan into other, including Arab, countries. It must not lead to destabilization of the situation around Afghanistan and in the Middle East as a whole. According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, after the terrorists' infrastructure is destroyed and channels of their political, military and financial support are blocked, the international community should focus on the roots of this phenomenon. These are poverty, globalization costs, and unsettled long-lasting regional conflicts exploited by terrorists, the ministry said.
