The presidents of Russia and Poland, Vladimir Putin and Aleksander Kwasniewski, have presented two countries' state awards to ten scholars, five of them Russian and five Polish. Among the Russian awardees were Yury Osipov and academician Alexander Andreyev, the president and vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences respectively. Congratulating Andreyev on his award, the Russian president said it hopefully was "the first step towards a Nobel Prize that you certainly deserve."
