About 50 gunmen who broke out of the Kodori Gorge yesterday are in Abkhazia (a self-proclaimed autonomy within Georgia) some 25 km from the border with Karachai-Circassia (Russia's North Caucasian Republic). According to recent information, the group is believed to be led by Ruslan Gelayev, one of the Chechen ringleaders. The Abkhaz military believe that the gunmen have only one 20-25 km stretch to cover before crossing over the mountain pass and directly reaching the Russian border. On Monday morning when the mist lifted, a missile bomb strike was dealt at the group of gunmen by three helicopters of the Abkhaz aviation.
