Tajikistan Denies Having US Servicemen On Its Territory

The Tajik authorities refute presence of US servicemen on the republic's territory. There are no US divisions on Tajik territory, Tajik Security Council Secretary Amerkul Azimov told RIA Novosti Wednesday. According to him, the media reports saying that US infantry divisions have landed in Tajikistan have nothing to do with reality. The Washington Post newspaper claimed in part that the US had dispatched some 1,000 servicemen to Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in a bid to augment its troops stationed in the direct proximity to the Afghan borders.
