After the terrorist acts in the USA the role of the fight against terrorism in the common foreign policy and the security policy of the European Union will grow. This opinion was expressed at a Moscow round-table conference by Mikhail Petrakov, chief of the department of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe at the Russian Foreign Ministry. However, Petrakov pointed out that this will not limit the sphere of use of the European Union's common foreign policy and security policy - the European Union will preserve its role in helping the refugees, in settling regional conflicts and in the non-proliferation of mass destruction weapons. Commenting on how these processes may affect the relations between Russia and the European Union, the diplomat said that the tragic events in the United States "have brought to light one important thing - Russia has demonstrated its readiness to cooperate and proved it in deed."
