Tajik President Emomali Rakhmonov and US Secretary of State Colin Powell discussed the aftermath of terrorist attacks on the USA in a Wednesday telephone conversation. According to the Tajik foreign ministry, Rakhmonov sympathized with the American nation and confirmed the republic's readiness to support the US government in its struggle against international terrorism. He also recalled the words about the importance of creating "a safety belt around Afghanistan" he had addressed to the United Nations General Assembly 3 years ago. As the conversation drew to a close, Rakhmonov asked Powell to lend urgent humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan.
