Russian citizen Viktor Bychek was freed on Wednesday in Colombia. Mr. Bychek had been kidnapped on September 27 by allegedly leftist militants from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). An officer on duty in the Russian Embassy in Bogota told RIA Novosti in a telephone conversation that "the condition of the Russian citizen is normal; he is in good health; and he intends to resume his work on the contract soon." Mr. Bychek who worked on a contract basis as a fitter in a private company was kidnapped by armed people at a construction site of the Ikira hydro-power plant located in the southwest of the country. FARC rebels are active in this area. It was FARC that in September of last year kidnapped a Russian citizen Vladimir Larin and Lithuanian citizen Vladimir Molodtsov and released them several days later.
