Pakistani Nuclear Engineering Scientist Set Free

Accusations of giving secret information to the Taliban have been remitted from Pakistani nuclear engineering scientist Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmud. After four days of interrogations in the counter-intelligence office the scientist was set free. The Pakistani newspaper "Dawn" writes that Mahmud worked for 35 years in the nuclear power engineering commission. A year and a half ago he sent in his resignation allegedly protesting against the government's plans to join the comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recommended its Pakistani counterparts to investigate the work of Sultan Bashiruddin Mahmud, supposing that he, possibly, gave to the Taliban, Osama bin Laden and his Al Qaeda grouping nuclear secrets, technologies and materials.
