The fight against terrorism may herald the start of full-scale cooperation between Russia and NATO, thinks Alexander Vershbow, US ambassador to Russia. He was speaking Tuesday at a plenary meeting of the visiting session of the World Economic Forum in Moscow. According to him, in combating terrorism Russia and the North Atlantic bloc could not merely cooperate but "take joint decisions". The American ambassador also believes that Russia and the US have presently a chance of getting out of the negotiating stalemate over missile defences. Besides, Vershbow did not rule out a possibility of formulating a new treaty recording a framework for today's relations as they are built between Moscow and Washington. According to him, such a document could be signed both on a bilateral basis and between Russia and NATO.
