Preparations for a Russian-Rumanian treaty of friendship and cooperation were discussed at consultations in Moscow between Alexander Avdeyev, Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister, and Christian Djakonescu, State Secretary of the Rumanian Foreign Ministry. At their negotiations last week, foreign ministers Igor Ivanov of Russia and Mircea Dan Geoana of Rumania agreed to reinvigorate work on the draft Russian-Rumanian treaty so as "to complete its preparations as soon as possible". Moscow believes that work on the treaty and an upcoming visit to Moscow by the Rumanian prime minister are to lay the ground for a summit meeting of the leaders of Russia and Rumania.
