The Dubai Airshow 2001 will feature over 200 products of the Russian defence industry. The exhibition will be held in Dubai, the economic capital of the United Arab Emirates, on November 4-8, and is the largest airshow in the Persian Gulf region and in the whole of Middle East. The 12 Russian leading defence enterprises will exhibit their production under the aegis of Rosoboronexport, the major Russian materiel exporter. The Dubai Air Show is a biennial event and has been held since 1989, with support of the Dubai Emirate government and the UAE Armed Forces. A spokesman for Rosoboronexport said that Russia would demonstrate Su-30MK, MiG-21-93, and MiG-AT fighters at this year's show. According to the Rosoboronexport spokesman, Russian armoured vehicles, artillery, anti-tank, and air defence systems have successfully performed in the armed forces of a number of the Gulf states. The participation of Rosoboronexport in the Dubai Airshow 2001 is, according to its spokesman, "a crucial element of marketing activities in the Middle East".
