Eduard Shevardnadze Says At The Moment, Georgia Is Ruled By Himself Alone

Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze, who has been facing a mass protest against his regime, has announced that, at the moment, Georgia is virtually ruled by only one person, meaning himself. As of today, in the country's leadership "only one person is working," said Shevardnadze in a Monday televised address, hinting at himself. In his opinion, the point at issue now is to "form a cabinet of ministers as soon as possible." Having admitted that it was persistent rallies against the current regime that prompted him to disperse the government, the president explained his decision to remain in office by saying it was meant to prevent destabilization and "society split." He also said he did not think there were other politicians in Georgia who had done as much as he had to protect freedom of speech, but confessed that "the events that took place in Georgia" had dealt a "serious blow to the country's prestige and authority."
