Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee thinks that it is quite possible that certain amendments can be made to the constitution of his country. He spoke about it on Monday in Petersburg at the meeting with representatives of the public and the scientific quarters. According to the Indian Prime Minister, the constitution of his country was adopted fifty years ago, and the principles on which it rests will remain stable. "India is a democratic country, and the power in it will always remain in the hands of the people," pointed out Atal Bihari Vajpayee. At the same time the Indian Prime Minister said that amendments can be made to the Indian constitution "to make it more conform to the present day." Atal Bihari Vajpayee said that a special commission was working over this problem. But, he pointed out, in order to change an article in the Constitution it is necessary that more than two thirds of the deputies of the Indian parliament voted for it. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that Russia and India, being democratic states, would be able to take into consideration the experience of each other in the future transformations.
